The Friends of St David's

Supporting the ministry and community life of beautiful St David’s Cathedral.

The Friends of St David’s (the ‘Friends’) are a group of people from all walks of life and from a variety of Churches who are keen to support the ministry of St David’s and build the community of the Cathedral in the heart of Hobart.

What do we do?

The Friends have a time-honoured tradition of working together to raise funds for the Cathedral, and have done so in one form or another for over 80 years! Funds raised by the Friends helps to support St David’s music ministry and provide items such as the Cathedral’s communion elements, flowers and candles. Some fundraising activities have included involvement with the Combined Charities Christmas Card & Gift Shop, a Christmas Pageant Day stall, occasional Sunday stalls and sales of Entertainment Books. The main event on the Friend’s annual calendar is the Community Floral Festival in February: Blooming Church – a celebration of community, creativity, flowers and music.

In addition to fund-raising, the Friends’ are also interested in providing opportunities for friendship building through the organisation of social events, where all are welcome.

There are also practical rosters such as brass cleaning and working bees before the Christmas and Easter services.

When do we meet?

A small committee which usually meets at St David’s between the 8 and 10 am Sunday services to organise the Friends’ activities, but you do not need to attend meetings to be a ‘Friend’ and support the Cathedral. Everyone is welcome to attend and/or join the Friends’ email list to receive updates.

How can you become involved?

We invite you to join us! We welcome ideas and appreciate your support of the Friends’ activities in the year ahead.
