Introduction to Botanical Illustration: Beginners’ Workshop

Conducted by Jean Henley, this workshop is designed for beginners and those wishing to refresh their botanical illustration skills.

Day 1 will cover all basic techniques for botanical drawing, with an introduction to watercolour and equipment. The outcomes for Day 1 are understanding of drawing materials; proportional sketching; a complete detailed drawing including tonal values, shading and foreshortening to create a 3-D botanical study; and basic knowledge of watercolour.

Day 2 will focus on applying watercolour to a drawing. The outcomes for Day 2 are application of watercolour with light, tone and detailing on the drawing; and the confidence to continue applying the principles of botanical illustration to future projects.

 Day 1: Saturday 16 March, 9.00am – 4.00pm

   Day 2: Sunday 17 March, 12 noon – 5.30pm

A materials list will be forwarded upon registration. BYO lunch. Morning & afternoon tea provided.

Parking: Cathedral carpark accessed off Murray Street, available Saturday from 8.30am and Sunday from 11.45am.
