The Field of Remembrance model adopted on the concept of Mrs CJ Pope, widow of Rear Admiral Pope RAN. In 1952 Mrs Pope, assisted by the War Widows’Guild, organised the first Field in the grounds of St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney by courtesy of the Cathedral Chapter, and with the encouragement of the Dean, The Very Reverend Dr S Barton Babbage. Similar Field of Remembrance Services are held in other Australia States under the auspices of the War Widows’ Guild of Australia.
